English Language Teacher Trainer
Karen aka Empress Zaria
Karen was an English Language Fellow with the US State
Department, stationed in Yaounde, Cameroon 2022-2023. Ms Francis-Winston’s 10-month
Fellowship included an action research project intended to bring cutting edge,
blended learning technologies to PKFokam Institute of Excellence. Karen, an immigrant from Jamaica, was one of only 200 U.S.
citizens selected for the 2022-2023 English Language Fellow Program.
The results of Ms Francis' research was presented during the Technology Enhanced Language Learning Conference in Cameroon; January 27-29, 2023
While on assignment in Cameroon, Ms Francis also facilitated professional development workshops that model the use of Project Based Learning via blended learning technologies, develop resources, and organize events and conferences for Cameroon’s English Language & Literature Teachers Association, CAMELA.
Due to the complexities inherent in these projects, experienced teachers like Ms. Francis, who represent the best of the U.S. TESOL community, are in great demand and highly sought after. English Language Fellows are counted among the more than 50,000 individuals participating in U.S. Department of State exchange programs each year. The Fellow Program is administered by the Center for Intercultural Education and Development at Georgetown University.
